Sime Darby Energy & Utilities is involved in a number of core businesses, namely oil and gas, engineering services, water management, ports and logistics, power as well as growing businesses in security solutions and calibration. With a global workforce of over 3,000 people, Sime Darby Energy & Utilities has a vast international presence covering Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China and Qatar.

Oil & Gas
  • The Oil & Gas business unit is led by Sime Darby Engineering, a fully integrated Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) service provider for the global oil and gas industry.
  • The Oil & Gas business unit is capable of supporting the full upstream value chain, acting as a one-stop solution centre for all oil and gas development needs. The 128-acre Pasir Gudang Fabrication Yard located in Johor, Malaysia has an annual fabrication capacity of 55,000 MT per annum.
  • The clientele list comprises both local and international companies, including Petronas Carigali, Shell, ExxonMobil, Maersk, Qatar Petroleum and Murphy Oil Corporation.
  • Sime Darby Energy & Utilities has an expanding marine fleet to complement its fully integrated services and is poised to take a leading position in the global oil and gas arena.

Engineering Services

The Engineering Services business unit, backed by a wide range of reputable products, provides and undertakes value-added engineering solutions/services including system design and integration, project management, installation, maintenance, training and calibration. The core sectors are:

  • Life sciences and fluid handling
  • Air handling, ventilation and pollution controls
  • Air-conditioning, fire-fighting and engineering retrofitting
  • Facilities automation, control and monitoring
  • Physical Security Products

Water Management
  • The Water Management business unit was set up to be an integrated water resource management entity in the country, involving the distribution, management and treatment of water supply and sewage services. Efforts under this initiative involve the development of water treatment and distribution facilities in Malaysia.
  • Sime Darby Water Resources Sdn. Bhd. the company set up for this purpose based on an anticipated increase in water demand by 2010, currently runs a pilot project to abstract groundwater in Cluny/Bedford estates in Perak, Malaysia. Up to 50 Mld is expected to be produced from the area.
  • The second phase of the project will see production increase up to 500 Mld daily. The overall aim of the project was to ensure the development of a ready water supply from groundwater for the region.
Ports & Logistics

Ports & Logistics operations are based in China, with a combination of five inland and seaports owned and managed by a team of local experts. Located in the prefecturelevel cities of Jining, where ports are dedicated to handling coal products and in Weifang, where the multipurpose wharves serve the general and bulk cargoes with container operations in the near future.

With a designed total handling capacity of over 70 million metric tonnes annually, the Ports & Logistics business unit aim to expand further to be a major player in the ports and logistics arena in China.

Power
  • Based in Malaysia and Thailand, the Power business unit provides a combined capacity of more than 600MW. The Malaysian operations are located in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia where electricity is supplied through an open cycle system on a peaking basis to the national power company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
  • Operations in Thailand are located in Laem Chabang, where electricity is supplied to the national utility company, Electricity General Authority of Thailand (EGAT), while steam is sold to clients in the Laem Chabang Industrial Estate.
  • The business unit’s operations and maintenance expertise is recognised globally through the various accreditations received to date, such as the prestigious, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
