Sime Darby Consolidates Healthcare Business with Launch of Sime Darby Healthcare
KUALA LUMPUR, 21 October 2008 - Sime Darby Berhad today officially introduced the Group’s new business unit, Sime Darby Healthcare. In tandem with this launch, all entities under Sime Darby Healthcare have been realigned and renamed.
With this rebranding exercise, Subang Jaya Medical Centre is now known as Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya; Megah Medical Specialists Group is Sime Darby Specialist Centre Megah and the SJMC Academy of Nursing and Health Sciences is Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College.
“These are exciting times for Sime Darby Healthcare, and we see that it has great potential. We have within us the capability to not only become Malaysia’s leading healthcare provider but also to emerge as a major player in the region,” said Sime Darby Healthcare Supervisory Committee Chairman Tan Sri Wan Zahid Mohd Noordin at the launch of Sime Darby Healthcare here today.

He said that with the Sime Darby Group operating in over 20 countries, there is much opportunity for the healthcare business to establish a presence in some of these countries.
“While we enhance our presence and look at ways and means of growing our operations in Malaysia, we are also looking at opportunities in emerging markets such as China. With the backing of a multinational conglomerate, we believe the Healthcare Group is poised to become the gold standard healthcare provider of the region,” he said.
Tan Sri Wan Zahid, who is also a member of the Board of Directors of Sime Darby Berhad, said that Sime Darby Healthcare would expand beyond hospital services as it aimed to participate in the numerous subsectors within the healthcare value chain.

“We are committed to promoting and providing excellent integrated healthcare services, where innovation and teaching will be integral to the delivery of care. We will also enhance customer focused preventive, diagnostic and curative healthcare services that touches all individuals,” he said.
He added that Sime Darby Healthcare would provide a holistic approach to healthcare, by not only providing medical services but also wellness aspects that will cater to a patient’s quality of life, mental well-being and long-term care.
Tan Sri Wan Zahid said that plans are also underway to expand Sime Darby Nursing & Health Sciences College’s intake and courses offered. Currently the college caters for the nursing personnel needs within the Group. The college plans to apply for university college status and offer other Allied Health Courses by next year.
“We are proud to state that our academy attains the highest percentage of success in the Malaysian Nursing Board Registration Examination. As a result, our nurses are in great demand by other outfits particularly in the Middle East,” he said.
