KUALA LUMPUR, 13 December 2008 - ‘NUR’ – a comprehensive insurance protection plan for women was launched today by Sime Darby Lockton Insurance Brokers Sdn Bhd with the cooperation of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

NUR was designed after extensive consultation with the Ministry and is specifically designed to cater for women who cannot afford the usual insurance premiums. Underwritten by Kurnia Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad, NUR is the first of its kind to offer comprehensive protection for minimal annual premium.

Sime Darby Lockton is targeting one million policy holders by the end of 2009 and will be embarking on an aggressive marketing and outreach programme targeting single mothers, lower income families and Wanita & Puteri UMNO members, amongst others. They are also working closely with various companies such as Aura Seri who will offer this insurance to all its regular customers. Talks are also underway with other organisations such as Petronas Mesrakad, Tekun Nasional, Amanah Iktiar, Usahanita and Peniagawati to adopt similar schemes.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this insurance option to women. And if you look at it, what we are offering is peace of mind without high premiums” said Sime Darby Lockton Regional Director, Insurance Division, Tuan Haji Che Ibrahim bin Che Idris. He added that Sime Darby Lockton was pleased to be able to work on this initiative together with the Ministry in support of the Ministry’s outreach programmes.

The launch was witnessed by the Director General of Women Development Department, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur and wife of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Yang Berbahagia Puan Sri Suriati Bte Md Sobri.

NUR is one of the few insurance schemes that make provision for snatch thefts, rape cases, domestic violence as well as providing comprehensive personal accident coverage. Under the NUR scheme, there are three plans available - Plan A at just RM10, Plan B at RM50 and Plan C at RM100 per year. All three plans provide comprehensive Personal Accident Coverage including provisions for Accidental Death, Permanent Disablement, Children’s Education Allowance, Medical Expenses and Loss of Income due to hospitalization.
