Sime Darby Berhad: Developing Sustainable Futures
Sime Darby Quarter Ended 30th September 2009

Sime Darby Berhad reported a net profit after tax and minority interest of RM685 million for the quarter ended 30 September 2009, a decline of 21% over the same quarter in the previous year.

The Plantation Division registered an operating profit of RM634 million, a decline of 35% compared to the same quarter in FY2008/09. This decline was principally driven by lower average CPO price realised for the quarter of RM2,245 per metric tonne compared to the same quarter in the previous year of RM2,962 per metric tonne. However, the quarter's operating profit was a 17% (RM91 million) increase over that registered in the preceding quarter. Production has also improved as yields in Malaysia and Indonesia recovered during the quarter under review compared to the preceding two quarters.

In the quarter under review, the Industrial Division reported an operating profit of RM188 million. This represented a decline of 25% compared to the same quarter in the previous year when profit was then boosted by the exceptionally strong performance in their South East Asian and Australasian operations.
