- Who is eligible for the Sime Darby scholarship?
The scholarship is open to all Malaysian Citizens who fulfill the minimum academic requirements and intend to study locally and overseas.
- I am a Malaysian citizen currently studying in overseas universities. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes, provided that you are currently enrolled in the universities specified by Sime Darby. You may be required to come back to Malaysia to attend scholarship assessment activities.
- I am foreign student currently studying in Malaysia. Am I eligible to apply?
The scholarship programme ONLY applies to Malaysian citizens.
- What is the Sime Darby Undergraduate Scholarship Programme (overseas)?
This annual scholarship programme is open to Malaysian Citizens who have attained excellent academic achievement, demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and wish to pursue undergraduate (degree) studies at overseas universities in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China.
- What are the minimum requirements for the scholarship?
In addition to meeting minimum academic requirements, candidates must possess the following qualities:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and potential
- Actively involved in extra-curricular activities and sporting events
- Candidates with at least a conditional offer from universities as specified by Yayasan Sime Darby will be given FIRST priority. Scholarship will only be effective upon receiving firm offer.
Minimum Academic Achievement for Undergraduate Scholarship Programme (Overseas)
- STPM (minimum 3As)
- Local Matriculation / Diploma (CGPA of at least 3.5)
- ‘A Level’ (minimum 3As)
- Australian TER SAM / AUSMAT (minimum 90.0)
- International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (minimum 36.0)
- International Canadian Pre-University (minimum 85%)
- Individuals pursuing their first or second year undergraduate studies overseas must have latest academic result of at least 2nd class upper division
Note: Previous academic achievements will be taken into consideration.
Minimum Academic Achievement for Undergraduate Scholarship Programme (Local)
- STPM (minimum 3As)
- Local Matriculation / Diploma (CGPA of at least 3.5)
- Individual pursuing their first or second year undergraduate studies locally must have latest CGPA of at least 3.5
Note: Previous academic achievements will be taken into consideration.

- Engineering and Technology : Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Computer, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Sciences : Agriculture, Biotechnology, Food Technology, Plantations Technology, Plantation management
- Medical and Allied Health Science : Medicine (MBBS), Pharmacy, Nursing, Dietetics, Radiation Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)

- What is the full scholarship value that I would receive if I am awarded a scholarship?
The full scholarship covers the following:
- Full tuition and academic fees
- Living Allowance
- Books allowance
- Computer allowance (one-off)
- Settling-in allowance (one-off) - overseas
- Clothing allowance (one-off) - overseas
- Student visa and passport - overseas
- Shipping allowance (one-off at the end of course) - overseas
- Flight ticket (at the beginning and end of course) - overseas
- Insurance coverage (if applicable) - overseas
Recipients of scholarship will have the opportunity to undergo Scholars Development Programme and experience work exposure through internship within the Sime Darby Group of Companies.
- Will applicants be bonded?
Yes. Period of service bond will depend on the total scholarship value received by the scholar upon completion of study.
- Can applicants apply if they are currently receiving loans/grants/bursaries from other organizations?
No. Students are now allowed to accept any other forms of scholarships, bursaries, loans, grants or financial assistance from other organizations.
- Does Sime Darby arrange for admission into universities for applicants, or do they manage the admission on their own?
It is applicants’ responsibility to secure placement in the university.
- Can applicants apply for a scholarship if they have been accepted into universities not in the list preferred by Sime Darby?
No. Applicants must ensure that offer letters received from universities are within the list of universities accepted by Sime Darby
- Can applicants apply for other fields of study which are not specified by Sime Darby?
No. Applicants must apply for courses which have been specified by Sime Darby. The courses mentioned may vary each year depending on Sime Darby business needs.
- Is there a minimum grade that students need to maintain as Sime Darby scholars?
Yes. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative CGPA of 3.5 or above OR 2nd Class Honours or above (for overseas students) OR to its equivalent in academic achievement and active participation in co-curricular activities.
- Can employees and employees’ children of Sime Darby apply for this scholarship programme?
Yes. This scholarship programme is open to all including employees and employees’ children.
- How can I apply for Sime Darby scholarship?
We accept all applications online at www.simedarby.com/scholarships/malaysia We announce the opening of our scholarship on our corporate website.
- What do you do with the information I send?
Your information will be used solely for the purpose of evaluating the status of your application. We understand the sensitivity of information such as salary details, and we ensure the confidentiality of information by restricting the access of data to our evaluators only.
- Do you accept manual scholarship applications?
NO. In line with our stand of developing sustainable futures, we believe in streamlining our recruitment to be more efficient as well as environmentally friendly. As such, please refrain from submitting any form of hardcopy application as it will not be entertained.
- My son/daughter is currently in college and is unable to access the Internet to submit the application. Can I apply on their behalf?
NO. The initial application must be done by the actual student as the first-time login will lead to a quiz page, which MUST be answered by the student. Should we have strong grounds to believe that the quiz answers were written or submitted by someone other than the student, we will disqualify the application.
- I want to attach a letter of recommendation from my institution/ company/ agency. How should I proceed?
Letters of recommendation will not make a difference in the processing and evaluating of your application. In line with our stand of developing sustainable futures, please refrain from submitting any form of hardcopy documentation as it will not be entertained.
- I received an error message during my application. Why does it occur, and do I need to do anything?
Under certain conditions (slow or intermittent internet connection, peak usage hours), our website may return error messages. In the case of power outage during your application, you may have to refill and resubmit the online form. If you encounter any error messages at any stage of the application, what you need to do is:
- Copy and paste the error message text and codes, and send it to the stated email address, OR
- Save the screen capture of the error message, and send it to the stated email address.
- How do I submit online application?
For first time login, please click “Deposit My Resume and Apply!” to create your account and fill up your resume.
The system will generate an auto reply to your e-mail address to notify on your login ID and password.
You may use the login ID and password to edit your resume before confirming your application. You may edit your application before deadline of application.
- How do I indicate my identity number in the online form?
In Section A (Personal Particulars) of the online form, select type of Identity Number as “New I.C#” and key-in your identity number in the box next to it.
For special identity number (army, police), select type of Identity Number as “Passport#” and key in your identity number in the box next to it.
- How do I specify parents’ monthly income in the online form?
In Section A (Family Details) of the online form, please specify monthly income in RM currency in the box provided.
- I have completed the online form and clicked the “Submit” button, but the form will not go through. How do I solve this?
If this happens, you may have missed some compulsory sections in the online application form. You need to ensure that you fill in all the compulsory fields marked with an asterisk (*), then click on the “Submit” button.
Please note that for the salary section, if either parent is retired or deceased, you will still need to enter a zero so that the system recognizes your input as a number.
- My personal details have changed after I have submitted my application. Can I update the changes in my online form?
YES, however you can only access your application account before the closing date of the scholarship recruitment. Please note that you cannot change the quiz answers, only the online form is editable.
- I want to edit my quiz answers. How do I do this?
You are NOT allowed to edit your quiz answers after you have submitted your online application.
- I took a long time to fill up the quiz section. Will this put me at a disadvantage?
We would advise you not to take more than half an hour to answer the quiz. The application is not considered complete unless you submit the quiz, and for sessions of more than one hour, you run the risk of having your internet connection timing out. If such instances occur, you will need to resubmit your application again.
- I missed the online application deadline. Can I submit my scholarship application manually?
NO. In line with our stand of developing sustainable futures, we believe in streamlining our recruitment to be more efficient as well as environmentally friendly. As such, please refrain from submitting any form of hardcopy application as it will not be entertained.
- I have submitted my application online. How do I know that you have received my online form?
After your application submission, you should be taken to a confirmation page, stating the conclusion of the application process. You will also need to check your email (the email address used in your application) for our acknowledgement email to confirm the receipt of your application.
- How do I know if I am shortlisted or not?
We will contact shortlisted candidates directly via phone or email. As such, please ensure that both your email address and phone number are typed in correctly, as our online system will generate automated emails or SMS in order to inform you of your status of application. It is your responsibility to ensure that we are able to reach you.
- I haven’t received any updates on my status of application. What is happening?
We will update everyone on their status of application.
If you are shortlisted, you will receive further instructions from us on how to proceed, via email and phone.
If you are unsuccessful, you will receive an email updating you on the status of your application.
If you do not receive any communication, it is possible that:
- Your email address was mistyped during your online application, or
- Your online application was not received.
- Can I appeal your decision if I am not shortlisted?
Our decision on the selection of scholarship recipients is final. No appeals will be entertained.
