PM Launches Sime Darby Convention Centre

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 December 2007 - The Sime Darby Convention Centre promises to add a new landscape in Malaysia’s Growing appeal as the preferred destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.
The new convention centre at Bukit Kiara, was officially launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi in a glittering ceremony held here today. At the event, Dato’ Seri Abdullah also launched “Planter’s Bungalow – A Journey Down The Malay Peninsula” coffee table book and the Bandar Gemilang integrated community development programme.
Sime Darby Chairman Tun Musa Hitam said the Sime Darby Convention Centre would bring about a new level of charm and sophistication to the art of meetings, exhibitions and banquets.
“Since its soft opening early last year, the Sime Darby Convention Centre has hosted over 1000 events. Its strategic location and our commitment to exceed our clients’ expectations, among others, have made this convention centre on of the preferred venues,” he said.
The Sime Darby Convention centre, which is adjacent to the Kuala Lumpur Golf and country Club, also offers six function rooms, auditorium, training centre, fine dining restaurants, VIP lounges and hospitality suites. It has a column-free ballroom, with a built-up area of 19,000 sq ft that can accommodate up to 2,600 guests.
On the launch of the The Planter’s Bungalow, Tun Musa said the 168-page book was an “invaluable resource on the growth and development of the plantation industry in Malaysia.”
“Sime Darby’s support for this one of a kind initiative reflects our corporate values and continued commitment towards the preservation of the many heritage buildings, including estate managers’ bungalows, historical industrial properties and recreational facilities owned by the Group, he said.
