Social Responsibility

Our social responsibility is focused on our employees and the communities in which we operate.

For our employees, we have placed a heavy emphasis around improving the safety culture throughout the organisation. Our recent safety record and safety culture is something that we take great pride in. It is an area where we continue to grow our capacity through continuous training, monitoring programmes and culture-building.

Among the many local initiatives undertaken by our businesses to support social and environmental causes, Sime Darby Berhad makes a RM20 million contribution to Yayasan Sime Darby to support its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes on education, community and health, environment, sports and arts and culture.

Communities

Sime Darby creates shared value for society through economic growth and development in countries where the company has direct impact and where stakeholders may have an influence on operations. As part of the larger society, mutual growth is important in our journey to ensure the sustainability of our businesses.

Community Contributions and Development

As a responsible corporate steward, we believe in delivering sustainable futures to our stakeholders by supporting worthy social causes in the communities in which we operate. The Group encourages and supports local community initiatives led by its Divisions.

Across the 19 countries and territories where we operate, our commitment to inspire and drive positive impact happens in the communities where more than 20,000 of our employees and families reside. Thus, understanding local needs and finding solutions that address socio-economic issues and support regional growth and development is an investment in both our business and the community. Providing local job opportunities, skills, and education that improves living conditions, also supports the development of our talent pool.

Yayasan Sime Darby

The Group fulfils its purpose to deliver sustainable futures to its stakeholders by making monetary and non-monetary contributions to Yayasan Sime Darby to support community development programmes.

Yayasan Sime Darby was established in 1982 to provide philanthropic support. Over the years, the Foundation has expanded its offering, from scholarships to deserving individuals to funding local and international conservation, outreach, and development efforts. There are five pillars of focus: education, environment, community & health, youth & sports, and arts & culture.
