Minimising Environmental Harm

To improve energy efficiency within all our operations and support business cases for development of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies.
Sime Darby Property is currently working to retrofit our buildings with energy efficient technologies. A pilot project was conducted at our headquarters in Wisma Sime Darby, Kuala Lumpur, to reduce the building’s annual electricity use by 7%. The air conditioning system was identified as the largest electricity user. Variable speed drives were installed to regulate the air conditioning system based on number of occupants in the building. The drives gave more control on the system and avoided excessive cooling during low occupancy period.

In 2015, Sime Darby Property also embarked on an Energy Efficiency Programme, to reduce 10% of annual electricity use at selected buildings.
We are concerned about the impact of burning fossil fuels has on the planet, and make every effort to use these resources efficiently. More than half of the energy use in our Plantation operations is from biomass, a renewable resource obtained as by-product of crude palm oil extraction. Our operations also rely on non-renewable resources such as diesel and natural gas.

We also actively seek ways to reduce electricity usage in our buildings. Project teams monitor electricity use at our business centres, convention centres, serviced apartments and hotels. Energy audits are conducted to gauge our electricity baseline. Data gathered are analysed using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
