What is Township Energy Efficiency Programme (TEEP)
The first Switch! activity is about Township Energy Efficiency – which we
believe exemplifies our commitment to building sustainable futures. Energy
efficiency in townships is a long-term goal which we aim to build-into every
Sime Darby township – from the planning stage, through the use of
energy-conscious materials, and also in the appliances and fixtures that we
offer buyers. Most importantly, we recognise that real energy efficiency can
only be achieved by creating awareness in homeowners on how to save money and
energy by using energy wisely.
With this in mind, we are releasing 100,000 energy-saving bulbs into Sime Darby
communities as a first phase to begin building awareness in our homeowners.
Every Sime Darby homeowner in townships developed by the Group in Shah Alam,
Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Klang is invited to participate and register in
this first release of 100,000 bulbs for as long as stocks last.
Of course the idea of swapping to a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulb is not
new. But what we are doing is using the bulb-switch as a catalyst and incentive
to switch lifestyles and change mindsets. The bulbs alone will not make the
difference necessary to lower overall household energy use – so these pioneering
households will also need to think about how they use air-conditioners and other
appliances, and throughout the year we will be giving tips for saving energy to
build even greater awareness through various media channels.
The Township Energy Efficiency programme is a long-term, multi-faceted project
that has been designed to encourage people to make the switch to an energy
efficient lifestyle.
