Meet Qualified Technician Jason Ferreira

Everything you are put through during your apprenticeship, everyone goes through it too. You just need to find your way to get through it all. It then pays off at the end when you are fully qualified and can continue to grow.

Meet Jason Ferreira, Service Department Technician at Porsche Centre Parramatta in Sydney. He is one of Sime Darby Motors’ apprentices for the Audi Certified Apprentice Programme. His experience during his apprenticeship was challenging, but he was able to complete it and is now a qualified technician.

"A lot of days were hard as you are trying to learn as much as you can on the go. I had to learn to ask questions and not worry if it was a stupid question or not, and I had to learn to be proactive," Jason shared.

"You also had to be very patient. Some days you wouldn't even touch a car. You just had to get through the day doing all the maintenance things in the workshop. The training was good because it was very hands-on, which is how I prefer to learn," added Jason.

  1. Can you share a bit of what you do and what a typical day for you is like?
Every day is different and never the same. Some days I could be doing general maintenance on a car, another day, I could be dropping an engine and gearbox out of the car.

  2. What is the best part about your job?
The best part of my job would be challenging myself to do new things every day and working with the people I work with in the workshop.

  3. What would you say was the biggest challenge in your career?
The biggest challenge in my career is in keeping up with new technology. Every week there is something new, especially with electric cars coming out.

  4. What would you say are your biggest accomplishments in your career?
It would have been completing my apprenticeship and becoming a qualified technician.

  5. What do you think about the working culture in Sime Darby?
The company always make sure you are treated as you should. They see each employee as an individual, and not just another number.
